Buckeye Roosevelt Street Improvements
project OVERVIEW
As the traffic lead for the project, Y2K supported the lead civil team with the traffic improvements on Roosevelt Street between Jackrabbit Trail and Buckeye Commons Driveway. This project was designed in two phases with the traffic signal design at the intersection of Roosevelt Street and Buckeye Commons Driveway on a fast track to be approved for construction at the same time as the adjacent Costco. Y2K coordinated with the prime consultant and City staff at the project intersection to quickly agree on items that could be ordered by the developer’s contractor who was already mobilized on the project. Y2K and the City were able to successfully bring the existing (never turned on) traffic signal up to City standards while also meeting PROWAG ADA guidelines for pedestrian push buttons and flat landings. Phase two of the project included the ITS and streetlighting design on Roosevelt Street as well as a new traffic signal design at Jackrabbit Trail and Roosevelt Street. Some unique project components included working with the developer’s contractor on special ITS/Streetlighting conduit crossings of existing culverts and the Tuthill Wash. In addition, during the traffic signal design, our team was able to work with Buckeye’s Traffic staff on implementing new signal features such as license plate reader cables and custom video detection on Jackrabbit Trail to coordinate with an adjacent ADOT project.
