Frye Road Protected Bike Lanes

project OVERVIEW

Y2K served as Prime for the preliminary design concepting of protected bicycle facilities along the 2.4-mile segment of Frye Road, between Arizona Avenue and the Paseo Trail. This corridor is a priority for the City of Chandler due to the existing bicycle use, established connection regional trails, numerous schools along the corridor, wide motor vehicle lanes, traffic volumes, and public feedback. The Y2K Team reviewed the existing corridor characteristics and design constraints, including driveway density, intersection geometry, existing transit stops, a railroad crossing, on-street parking, and traffic patterns entering each school along the corridor. Context sensitive solutions were developed to provide enhanced protection for bicyclists, while preserving the existing functionality and operation of the corridor. Project deliverables included a project assessment report, conceptual cost estimate, and 15% plans.
