Edgewater School Transportation Plan – Edgewater, CO
project OVERVIEW
Ensuring students can get to school safely regardless of mode choice is at the heart of providing equitable, safe, and comfortable transportation solutions for our communities. DRCOG has developed the Community Based Transportation Plans (CBTP) pilot program to be a vessel to deliver localized transportation plans that lay the groundwork for critical infrastructure and non-infrastructure improvements targeted at improving transportation safety, mobility, and comfort around schools in histrionically underserved areas.
Nestled in between Denver, Wheatridge, and Lakewood, the community of Edgewater was a perfect test case for a CBTP. Three elementary schools were historically serving this area, Edgewater, Lumberg and Molholm Elementary School. Molholm Elementary School was closed following the 2022/2023 school year, resulting in changes to the traffic patterns around the school and a greater need to develop a plan to get students to school safely. This project will develop a plan to benefit all community members and improve how children walk and roll to school.
