Job Summary

The Transportation Safety Project Manager works collaboratively as part of the Y2K Engineering team to deliver high-quality transportation projects focused on improving the mobility, safety, comfort, and efficiency of the transportation network. This position serves as a project manager and/or technical lead on a variety of projects, which may include transportation safety, traffic operations, corridor and planning studies, data analytics, traffic studies, emerging technologies, research, and other multidisciplinary transportation assignments.

In addition to managing projects, people, clients, and resources, this position works directly with Y2K’s Principal and provides leadership for Y2K’s Road Safety and Multimodal practice, including advancing the use of data science, visualization, and emerging analytical methods in transportation projects. The Project Manager will help identify and develop new tools and methodologies, mentor staff, support research and business-development opportunities, and increase Y2K’s visibility and expertise in transportation engineering.

The Project Manager will be expected to prepare and oversee project deliverables such as technical reports, public-facing documents, succinct analysis results, dynamic dashboards, data visualizations, and presentation materials. Responsibilities may include overseeing and guiding junior staff in traffic modeling, data collection, field review, data analysis, report preparation, and other project activities, as well as participating in client meetings and supporting other team members as needed.

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in civil engineering, a focus on Transportation or Traffic Engineering preferred

  • 6+ years relevant work experience in the transportation industry

  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License required.

  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) and/or Road Safety Professional (RSP) certification preferred.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Detail-oriented and organized to ensure deliverable execution.

  • Motivated to find solutions, as it relates to the job and technology.

  • Technical writing and documentation with confidence in Microsoft Office suite, Adobe a plus.

  • ·Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written skills. 

  • Strong data analysis and visualization abilities, including demonstrated interest or experience in data science, GIS, and emerging transportation analytics technologies.

  • Emphasis on delivering work products that meet the needs of the customer, both internally and externally.

  • ·Task management and client relationship experience.

  • Strong leadership skills, including staff development and mentoring.

  • Working knowledge of transportation analysis tools and demonstrated ability to evaluate, develop, and apply analytical technologies appropriate to project needs.

  • Experience with GIS is preferred, but not required 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Independently perform duties on traffic/transportation projects, from the start to finish with a focus on preparing high quality deliverables.

  • Perform project management duties including being responsible for project performance, client coordination, on-time deliverables, budget monitoring and reporting.

  • Interface with clients, negotiate scopes, fees, and change orders.

  • Collaborate with the billing team for timely invoicing, reporting, and collections.

  • Provide leadership for project team by directing team members to meet project goals, adhering to their responsibilities and project milestones.

  • Ensure technical quality, profitability, schedule, project staff coordination, client communications and follow-up.

  • Identify opportunities to integrate new analytical tools and methodologies into Y2K projects and develop scalable approaches that can be used across the organization.

  • Provides timely, accurate and complete reports on the status of past, current, and potential future projects.

  • Promote company culture, focused on core principles and behaviors representative of Y2K Engineering.

  • Maintain active involvement in relevant professional organizations, industry events, conferences, technical committees, and research activities to support professional development, industry visibility, and Y2K business-development objectives.

  • Responsible for maintaining all required certifications for Traffic/Transportation work in the region.

Travel

  • Travel on an as-needed basis, primarily to visit offices, project sites or attend conferences within AZ, CO or others.

Office Physical Requirements:

All positions in our office require interaction with people and technology while either standing or sitting. Work required frequent and prolonged computer use. Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures while in the office and visiting job sites.

The ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; hard hat and safety vest).
